Mercy Flight

JUNE 9 -- To help ensure children and teens have a fun, safe summer Mercy Flight, the Emergency Nurses Association CHATT Chapter and Southern Tier Health Care System, Inc., will hold their annual KICK-OFF TO A SAFE SUMMER, Louis Magnano Mercy Flight Heliport at Olean General Hospital, 11 AM – 4 PM.
Mercy Flight is celebrating its 31st anniversary during Kick Off to a Safe Summer with an open house and tours of the Mercy Flight helicopter. Attendees will be able to talk to Mercy Flight pilots and medics about their life-saving work.  The day-long event will be fun and informative for the whole family. Area fire departments and police agencies will hold demonstrations throughout the day. There will also be free give-a-ways for children and opportunities to see the fire engines and rescue equipment used by area firefighters and EMS providers. Free bike helmets for kids will be available while supplies last.
There will also be a bounce house and inflatable slide for children to enjoy.  Special events include a demonstration by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit at around 11:30 AM. The Allegany Fire Department will be demonstrating how air bags are used to lift a vehicle off a victim. The Weston’s Mills Fire Department will use the Jaws of Life to show how they cut and pry injured patients from a wrecked vehicle. Portville Truck will demonstrate how to right an overturned vehicle.
The City of Olean Fire Department will hold a fire-safety demonstration. The City of Olean Police Department will conduct a car seat safety checks from 11 to 2 p.m. The Sheriff’s Office will make Safe Kids Id’s from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be many other activities going on throughout the day.  Trappers Chicken BBQ will also be on hand with their famous chicken barbecue dinners.
